West Town Public Art

West Town’s Public Art Program brings art out of conventional spaces and places it in the public context to create full accessibility. The program’s mission is to culturally invigorate our vibrant community and local economy while simultaneously highlighting local, emerging, and established artists.  Public Art Grants of up to 100% are awarded through West Town’s SSA29-2014, a local economic development tool that funds these projects through a property tax within the SSA boundaries.

There are many ways to participate in the program depending on your role and project:
Are you a Property Owner looking for a mural on your building or an Artist looking for opportunities?

Each Summer we have a Call for Walls, where Property Owners can submit their interest in the program. If your wall is selected, we’ll facilitate a Call for Artists in the Fall, where Artists will submit their portfolios for consideration. Property Owners will select an Artist, and they’ll work together on a design that will be installed the following Spring or Summer. This is a great opportunity for property owners that don’t have an existing relationship with an artists.

You can express your interest in the program as either a Property Owner or Artist at any time to be notified of opportunities as they become available.

Are you an Artist or Property Owner that has been working on a mural and design and are looking for funding?

If you are already working with an artist, you can fill out the Public Art Grant application together. If you meet all Program requirements and funding is still available for the year, you may receive a grant to cover 100% of the costs. These applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Are projects other than murals eligible?

Yes! Eligible projects include window art, sculptures, stained glass, mosaics, natural or living works, installations, temporary architectural constructions, and performances. Reach out to us to discuss your idea.
