West Town Pop Up Project

The West Town Chamber of Commerce created the West Town Pop Up Project as a commercial development asset. The goal is to recruit new businesses to the West Town area by offering short term leases to potential small businesses interested in trying out physical retail space and their retail concepts on the Chicago Avenue commercial corridor in a short term “Pop Up”.

Access to a short-term temporary retail space allows brands, products, makers, artists, and entrepreneurs the ability to meet their current customers and gain new ones. Sole proprietors to large corporations can utilize the West Town Pop Up Project storefront as a retail access point, product or brand launch location, or experiential marketing space.

The West Town Pop Up Project’s mission is to provide lessees with short term access to a physical retail storefront space in order to experience the West Town Chicago marketplace, while also encouraging retail business development along the West Town Chicago commercial corridors.

Space & Location:

The West Town Pop Up Project storefront space is approximately 550 square feet and located at 1821 W. Chicago Avenue, Chicago IL 60622.

Current Tenant

The West Town Chamber of Commerce is excited to officially welcome NICZKA as the first West Town Pop Up Project tenant!

NICZKA is a Chicago based, woman owned, high-end, electronic clothing line. Tania Mackey is the designer and owner of NICZKA, she is looking to eventually open a permanent retail space in Chicago, and is now considering West Town!

"I want to use my design, production, and technical skills to help people create exclusive custom pieces, all while being sustainable. I have worked with countless clothing companies that have production overseas, and I decided fashion deserves to stay local. I like knowing what I am using in my products, where and how it's made, and supporting Chicago along the way."

"We're looking to help your everyday style be effortless and easy. From edge to fit, we have you covered. We create a way for locals to be inclusive in the design process regarding ethical, exclusive clothing. The client will be a part of the design process as much as they prefer. We can get very personalized according to design, logo, etc. "

- Tania Mackey, NICZKA Owner & Designer

To check out these amazing designs in person, mask up and stop by the Pop Up Project space at 1821 W. Chicago Ave. 11am-7pm through December 23rd.

Also currently on display in the windows of the West Town Pop Up Project space is artist Mara Baker. Baker created a light installation, part of a series called "Chameleon Blind", inside the windows of the Pop Up Project space at 1821 W. Chicago Avenue. Chameleon Blind is an ongoing multi-disciplinary body of serial work combining wood, metal, light, fiber processes, and animation to create multi-dimensional “light paintings” in storefront window spaces throughout the city of Chicago.

Designed to be visible 24 hours a day the installations light up each night at dusk allowing commuters and pedestrians to experience the work as it transforms from day to night. Over the last six years, Chameleon Blind has had nine iterations in both traditional and non-traditional gallery spaces across the city of Chicago. An archive of the project can be seen here.

The overarching goal of Baker's project is to create new opportunities for the community to engage and access contemporary art outside of traditional gallery settings, while fostering connections to support and promote local business.
